5A- Identifying Local Opportunities
Below are five stories that have taken place in my hometown
near Tampa, Florida. Each story discusses problems that could be avoided by
implementing an entrepreneurial outlook.
1.

Firefighter Hospitalized
Story: Off of Dew Bloom Road in
Brandon, Florida, a church engulfed in flames leaving parishioners with no
church to return to. A firefighter and a parishioner suffered smoke related
complications.
Problem: The staff and parishioners
of this church have lost their place of worship and a place they may call their
second home.
Who has the problem?: The pastor,
clergy, and the regular members of the church who have been affected by the unforeseen
situation, those who were injured, and even those who have visited the church
or planned to visit.
2.
Manatee County Deputies Arrest Man
Pointing Lasers at Pilots
Story: People in the Sarasota area
reported lasers lights in the area, so the local aviation unit went out to
investigate and found that a 41-year-old man was intentionally pointing lasers
at planes trying to land.
Problem: The laser lights being
pointed by this man is causing local residents to be suspicious and can be
harmful to pilots trying to land safely.
Who has the problem?: Pilots who want
to land their passengers safely, passengers who want to make it home and the
airport who wants to continue sending planes out. The scope can also be
expanded to airlines who want their ticket sales to continue increasing.

shop in South Tampa is experiencing constant vandalism on their store front,
store signs, walls, and windows.

Who has the problem?: The owners and
attendees because their safety is danger. Also, the store may suffer from this
and not prosper as much as it was before this vandalism occurred.

stuff got stolen has the problem. However, the gym also has the problem because
it occurred on their property and to one of their members.

hold of a gun and one of the boys was accidently shot. The boy died later that
night in the hospital.

life due his friends playing around with a gun.

family who are suffering from the death of the teenager, the high school who
lost one of their students and is wondering whether or not the gun was present
during school hours, the police officer who wasn’t at his house when this occurred,
and the teenage who fired the gun and has to deal with this the rest of his
life.
Hi Brianna,
ReplyDeleteWell done identifying some local opportunities. A lot of these were very tragic occurrences, especially the ones about the boy being shot and the church. Regarding the man pointing lasers at the airplanes, I'm curious as to how you might foresee a solution to such a niche and rare occurrence as this. Nonetheless, it may be a valuable thing to look into.
Many of these occurrences seemed to be more isolated instances as opposed to trends, and I think that might be something to consider if you were to push forward with any of them. Often times one of the most important things when evaluating an opportunity is seeing just how feasible it is based on how big of an issue it is (plays into market size).
Hey Brianna,
ReplyDeleteGood job identifying some local opportunities. A lot of my articles that I found were pretty negative as well, I feel like that is all we see in the news sometimes and it is sad. I wish more news articles would be written about volunteering efforts or steps for social justice. Unfortunately, after a while I feel we tend to get used to seeing such horrible news.
Hi Brianna!
ReplyDeleteAgain, great post! I thought it was especially thoughtful that you identified multiple problems with each headline, as different individuals have specific wants that make an event spark a different needs for them. I found the same thing for my post, where I similarly identified that in the instance of a corporate mishap the corporation wants to protect its profitability by minimizing the issue in the future, whereas customers simply want to know that they will be protected and well-cared for. Well done!
Hey Brianna, amazing job identifying local opportunities. I agree with you and everyone else a lot of these articles that we were all coming by were very negative. I believe the man pointing the laser at planes seems to be the most interesting article that has come by and am curious to see how that unfolded.
