21A- Reading Reflection No. 2
1)
In my opinion, the theme of this book is to stay
professional, provide relevant content, and utilize more than one platform when
building your social media present. The main focus of this book was to provide
people who are looking to make their business more present on social media with
tips and tricks. Guy Kawasaki offers guidance through a bottom-up approach that
he believes will attract consumers to your product.
2)
I feel that this book connects with ENT3003 in
that it touches on professional branding for a company. Throughout ENT3003 we
have all been tasked with creating a business idea for an unmet need. Creating
a business idea will eventually lead to needing to promote that business idea. In
other words, a professional brand is a crucial part of a businesses marketing
plan, which is something we have covered in class. I feel like this book does a
great job of explaining the proper way to jump start your business on a social
media platform therefore, the knowledge we have built in class can be enhanced
by this book.
3)
I think a good exercise that would go along with
this book would be to have each student create one professional and relevant
post for a social media page pertaining to the business idea they have been
creating this whole semester and share it through their blog. This assignment
would give students insight on another task that entrepreneurs take on when
trying to start up their business, therefore it would allow them to be well
rounded and prepare them if they want to take their business idea further than
this course.
4)
I think the biggest “aha” moment for me was that
Guy (the author) suggests that business owners do not use more than two social
media platforms to promote their business. He says that it begins to become
redundant and you may not be able to release quality content when focusing on
too many platforms. I found this interesting because I thought the more
platforms used the better because it leads to more viewers and people becoming
aware of your product.
Hi Brianna. I really enjoyed your post. I think that exercise you created in relation your book is very interesting. It actually sounds like it would be a lot of fun to a fake social media page for our business ideas. I also agree that it is surprising that his suggestion is to not use more than two social media pages. While it makes sense, it isn't something I have ever considered before. Great work, Brianna!
ReplyDeleteHi Brianna,
ReplyDeleteWell done with your reading reflection! Guy Kawasaki is definitely a very prominent figure in the entrepreneurship scene with a lot of varying opinions surrounding him and his advice. I too found it interesting how he suggested only using two forms of social media, which is something that I too would greatly disagree with. It is extremely easy to replicate content between platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) due to the similar natures. Thus, one would be foolish to not capitalize on them all by just simply reposting. Keep up the great work!
Hi Brianna!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog post and learning what Guy Kawasaki had to say about professional branding. I think it was interesting that he and the author I chose both highlight how the networks developed over the internet become essential social capital for humanity, though Kawasaki touches more on the business side of this. I also found your exercise example to be a potentially highly useful one, great work!
Hello Brianna. I have a friend named Guy whom I learn a lot from, so it was interesting to see that you learn a lot from a man named Guy too. I agree that in entrepreneurship, it is important to be professional, and provide relevant content on a widespread array of social media platforms. This is interesting because, like you said, I thought that the more presence you have on multiple social media platforms the better, but apparently this could be redundant according to the book. I would also agree that both the book and the class discuss the importance of personal branding. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteHey Brianna,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog post, you did a really good job thoroughly answering the questions with detail. I liked learning about what Guy Kawasaki had to say about professional branding. I also found it surprising that guy put emphasize on social media, It does make sense though! Good job!
